Family.AaronBenedictphotoAaron Benedict (1785-1873), the brother of my fourth great grandmother Rebeckah Benedict Clark (1764-1852)  started a  button factory in Waterbury, CT, during the War of 1812 to supply brass buttons to the army. The factory grew to produce tubing, wire, castings, hinges, rivets and other products using brass, copper, silver, and other metals. When Gen. Ulysses S. Grant and Gen. Robert E. Lee met at Appomattox Courthouse, they both wore Waterbury buttons on their chests. The Waterbury Button Company is still making buttons today.  Check out this videoFamily.Aaron Benedict
